07Good to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

What does my Japan land-only package include?

Your land-only package includes 8 nights / 9 days in premium hotels with breakfast, 4 halal lunches and 2–3 halal Japanese dinners, group sightseeing by private charter bus, train transfers between cities, airport-to-hotel transfers, and guided touring with a Japanese/English-speaking guide, an AlMaghrib instructor and local activity providers. Daily activities such as the halal sushi-making class and garden & castle admissions are included. No flights or airfare are included.

What will we see in Japan?

This journey is specifically designed for Muslim travellers to provide an in-depth, meaningful experience of Japan. You’ll enjoy group sightseeing across Japan’s iconic cities, natural beauty and gardens, plus personal time for shopping — all while learning and reflecting on Japanese and Muslim history, culture and values with expert guides.

A carefully designed curriculum runs throughout the trip via talks, reflections and on-site visits. The aim is not simply to see Japan, but to have a transformative journey with new perspectives, deeper understanding and lasting memories.

How should I purchase my airline tickets?

You are responsible for a round-trip international ticket from a home airport of your choice. Please schedule arrival to Osaka (KIX) on Sat November 21 and departure from Tokyo (NRT or HND) on Sun November 29. The main program begins the morning of Sun November 22.

Pre-Trip Hiroshima add-on: arrive November 18 (into Osaka KIX), or by the morning of November 19 (into Hiroshima Airport via a domestic flight from Tokyo). The add-on program starts in Hiroshima at 12pm on November 19.

Post-Trip Shizuoka add-on: depart November 30 — please select a flight after 8pm, as the tour returns to Tokyo (HND/NRT) by 5pm.

Please email blessedvoyage@almaghrib.org to discuss your flight plan for any add-on extensions.

Do I need a visa to enter Japan?

For trips under 90 days, visa-exempt countries include the United States, Canada, UK and Australia. US green-card holders will need to arrange a visa. For full details, please check the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website: mofa.go.jp.

What hotels will we be staying at?

We use premium 4-star and 5-star hotels in each city, with breakfast included. Specific hotel details will be confirmed closer to the trip date. Check-in is typically from 3pm onwards (Japan Standard Time).

What if I change my mind after I have paid?

Full payment and refund terms will be confirmed when booking opens. Join the waitlist and we will share the complete terms before you commit to anything.

Are there any discounts available to AlMaghrib students?

There are no additional discounts. We have tried to provide the best balance of price, logistics and comfort for all travellers — and, of course, you should expect no less than an excellent program from AlMaghrib Institute.

What is the role of the AlMaghrib instructors on the trip?

The instructors are in charge of all religious affairs and deliver faith-based historical programming throughout Japan. They accompany the group, provide regular lectures and interaction alongside a local tour guide, and there is plenty of time to meet with them during the trip. Group leaders manage administrative issues, including questions about the hotels.

Can I add on other places before or after Japan?

This is at your discretion and you must arrange your own flight itinerary accordingly. The main trip runs November 21–29. We offer a 3-day pre-trip add-on to Hiroshima, Miyajima and Himeji/Kobe (November 18–21) and a 2-day post-trip add-on to rural Shizuoka (November 29–30), both including airport transfers.

For any extended stays beyond this, you’ll need to arrange your own hotel and transport. For more information email blessedvoyage@almaghrib.org.

Is this tour suitable for families with children?

Yes. This is an active, culturally immersive tour and is best suited for ages 11 and up. Children ages 7–11 may be accepted on a case-by-case basis, subject to consultation and approval. Please email blessedvoyage@almaghrib.org to discuss suitability before booking.

Children should be able to walk up to 2 hours at a time (some days up to 12,000 steps), be comfortable waiting for scheduled washroom breaks, and comfortable with halal Japanese meals (snacks and alternatives can be purchased along the way).

Will we see autumn foliage on the trip? 🍁

Late November is traditionally one of Japan’s most beautiful times of year, with autumn foliage (“koyo”) at its peak across much of the country — fiery maples and golden ginkgo in temple gardens, castle grounds and mountainsides.

Like all natural phenomena, foliage follows nature’s rhythm rather than a fixed schedule, and timing shifts year to year with the weather. We’ve timed and routed the trip around the historically expected peak, while being realistic that only Allah knows exactly when the colours will turn.

Will we see Mount Fuji on the trip? 🗻

Mount Fuji is affectionately called the “shy mountain” — visibility depends entirely on weather and cloud cover and can change hour by hour. Fully visible on roughly 80–100 days a year, partially visible on many more, and completely hidden on the rest.

On our trip we visit Lake Kawaguchiko, one of the best and most iconic viewing locations. For those who want to increase their chances, the post-trip Shizuoka add-on offers close proximity with coastal viewpoints and excellent sunrise viewing. Even when Fuji is shy, these regions remain exceptionally beautiful — but as with all signs in nature, it is revealed when Allah wills.

Will halal food be arranged?

Halal food can be challenging in Japan, so we’ve made all arrangements for you. Breakfast is included daily at hotel buffets with halal/veg/fish options, and curated halal restaurants and strategic stops are built into the itinerary to make every meal memorable — halal ramen, sushi, takoyaki, bento boxes and more.

Is this trip suitable for older participants?

The itinerary suits a wide range of ages. Days are full, but we’ve arranged strategic hotel drop-off points so anyone can rest or skip activities, and any strenuous activity (martial arts, steep uphill hiking) is completely optional and easy to skip.

Please note that most days involve at least 2 hours of walking (some up to 12,000 steps), sometimes on uneven surfaces, hills or steps, and participants should be able to get on and off the bus independently. Comfortable walking shoes are essential. If you have specific mobility needs, contact us and we’re happy to advise on suitability.

When will the complete Japan program become available?

Additional trip information will be provided well before departure, along with tips and suggestions to make the most of your stay. Trip webinars will also be scheduled. For any further questions, email blessedvoyage@almaghrib.org.
